Are your social media accounts verified?

What does it mean to have a verified account?

For public figures and poplar brands, having proper verification is necessary for brand awareness, prevents fraud, and protects the overall integrity of the brand, company, or person’s name that is being used. Having the proper verification is extremely important especially when it comes to overall branding. Verified pages on social media have either a checkmark or badge indicating that their profile is authentic and well known. Main benefits of having a verified account are, consumer trust, authenticity, clout and credibility.

Why you should care?

Your brand is everything, especially if you do not want to have to worry about others trying to copy your overall brand or name. First impressions on your overall brand are very important, especially when it comes to gaining new customers/clients. Clients are more likely to trust your brand/business if you have the blue checkmark next to your name on all your media platforms. Trust matters, whether you’re on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or all of the above, having a verified account will insure all of your followers that you are genuine and that they can trust you. If you are well known in your community, field of work, or worldwide, having a verified account will insure to your followers that you’re the real deal.

Twitter states that you can improve your chances of becoming a verified account by having consistency within your profile, such as a username that is very similar to the persons or companies name. The profile and header photos should also be consistent with the overall branding style of the person or company.

Lastly, fill out and submit the form to request account verification.  Where you will explain to Twitter why you should have a verified account and you will need to provide examples to help the company understand your impact. You will also have to provide at least two URLs to showcase your newsworthiness, popularity or relevancy in your field.  Twitter may also request a scan or photo of a government-issued ID to confirm your identity. And then Twitter will respond with your request via email, to the email address that you provided to them, and they state that if you get denied, you will be able to submit another request in 30 days.
